What is the Civil War Guide?

The Civil War Guide is a wiki-style information resource for the American Civil War. The Civil War Guide strives to provide a comprehensive resource for information about American Civil War battles. A unique features of the Civil War Guide is our Google Mapping system, which displays battle sites on our integrated Google Maps. Another great feature is the ability to export KML files into Google Earth for offline research.

What resources were used to compile the information on this website?

Many of the battle descriptions were compiled for the Civil War Sites Advisory Commission and reused here in accordance with the National Park Service Website Ownership Disclaimer. Visit the Civil War Sites Advisory Commission's website to learn more about their great efforts as well as review acknowledgments for the efforts of the original compilation of some of the battle materials provided here.

Some materials were copied from the archive of Civil War battle information on Wikipedia, in accordance with the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License. When possible original content references are provided along with the battle details.

Many of the historical photos used on this website are also under the public domain and came form the National Archives.

Other materials including battle descriptions, photos, locations and any other data related to a civil war battle or point of interest were written, compiled and published by knowledgeable volunteer users of this website. and also fall under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License.
